The Brunei Darussalam Scout Association (PP-

NBD) hosted a media appreciation event at The

Rizqun International Hotel yesterday.

Among the invitedguestswere senior of icials

as representatives of Acting Director of Radio

Television Brunei (RTB), Acting Director of Youth

and Sports and Acting Director of Information.

PPNBD deputy presidents, secretary gen-

eral, chairpersons of district scouts council

and chief scouts commissioner as well as mem-

bers of the National Scout Council, the Scout

Foundation Advisory Board, the National Scout

Executive Committee of the Scout Foundation

Administrative Committee Decorative and Dis-

ciplinary Committee Commissioner’s Council

were also present.

The ceremony began with the recitations of

Surah Al-Fatihah

and

Doa Selamat

, followed by

welcoming remarks from PPNBD President Haji

Matusin bin Orang Kaya Sura Haji Tuba.

Haji Matusin, in his speech, expressed his

belief that mass media plays an important role

in disseminating scouting programmes to the

community, such as jamboree and camping as

well as scouting seminars and workshops.

Yesterday’s event, he said, was the associa-

tion’s way of showing gratitude towards the

media for promoting the scouts movement

in the country.

He also attributed the decades of scouts

presence in Brunei Darussalam to media sup-

port in maintaining its relevance.

“Without the media, where would PPNBD

be?” the president said, adding that the advent

of digital media has allowed for even more

ef icient spread of scouts activities among

members of the public.

Meanwhile, a video depicting the associa-

tion’s journey and developments in the country

was presented before tokens of appreciation

plaques were handed tomedia representatives

at the event.

Politeknik Brunei (PB) students should take

advantage of the opportunity given to

study hard, said its Acting Director Alias

bin Haji Abu Bakar.

His remarks came during the college’s

Personality and Motivation Ceremony

held as part of the orientation for the 10

th

intake at the Main Conference Hall of the

International Convention Centre (ICC) in

Berakas where he attended the event as

the guest of honour.

He added, “Students need to ful il their

responsibilities of becoming future leaders

in their chosen ields.”

The event began with the recitation of

followed by a

Doa Qunut

.

A mass oath-taking was also carried out by

the new students.

Among the objectives of the orientation

were to introduce the students to the

culture of PB, and to prepare them for the

upcoming school year.

Yesterday’s ceremony also saw alumni

sharing their experiences at PB and the

successes after graduation.

Also in attendance were registrars, heads

of departments, heads of schools, of icers and

staff of PB.

The irst phase of the orientation for the 802

new students was held from July 6š14. Students

were divided into four sessions in congruence

with the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) guidelines

amid the COVIDš19 pandemic.

Similar arrangement was made during

yesterday’s event.
