salam Amateur Softball and Base-
ball Association (BASBA) as the
irst Bruneian lady umpire at the
ISF/SCA certiication course in
Bangkok, Thailand.

Jointly organised by the In-
t e r na t i ona l So f t ba l l Fede r a -
tion (ISF), Softball Confedera-
tion Asia (SCA) and the Amateur
Softball Association Thailand
(ASAT), the course was held from
September 26. The course in-
cluded lectures, written exam and
also valuation on the ield.

In-Chief said this was a very good
opportunity for the ladies to par-
ticipate as umpires.
He has seen lots of lady umpires
during other international matches
and believed Bruneians can also
achieved the feat.
The umpires thanked the BASBA
and Department of Youth and
Sports for their support and op-
portunity that has been given
to them.

was signed yesterday at the Ministry
of Development.

Osman said the decision to construct
the bridge linking Temburong and
the capital would be based on the
outcome of the study.
“The outcome would later be
discussedwith the relevant agencies.
If the parties involved agreed for
it to be implemented, then we
would commit ourselves to building
the bridge. At present, we cannot
comment whether to construct or
otherwise,” the minister, who was
the chief guest and witnessed the
signing, added.
The government through the
National Development Plan has
allocated a sum for the feasibility
study to be implemented.
The study costing over BND2.8
million is to make a thorough
analysis on issues involved in plans
to construct a road and bridge
connecting the two districts.
The study will identify several
main aspects including socio-
economic, technical, environment,
inancial and so on.
The government will decide
whether to build a bridge in
the near future, based on the
information gathered for the study.
The minister said the design of the
Bridge linking Temburong,
BSB could become reality
bridge, if built, would be unique,
using Islamic architecture. He said
Ove Arup has a lot of experience
in designing and building bridges
in more than 30 countries.

be unique, be recognisable in Brunei
using Islamic architecture. Thebridge
will span22 kilometres including 12km

across the water and another 10km
across the mangrove swamp. We will
design in such a way the mangroves
are preserved. It would be a dual two-
lane road. We will look at the cost as
the cost is a very important consider-
ation and we will look at the possible
phasing of the bridge,” he said.
