MINISTERS LAUNCH WEEKEND MARKET

Brunei Darussalam’s gross domestic product

(GDP) is expected to grow at 1.6 per cent

in 2020, according to a forecast by a

macroeconomic surveillance organisation,

ASEAN+3 Mac roeconomi c Re sea rch

OfŽice (AMRO).

The only countries with expected positive

growth are Brunei, Vietnam (3.1 per cent),

China (2.3 per cent), Myanmar (1.1 per cent),

and Laos (0.5 per cent).

The sultanate would grow at 3.1 per cent

next year, AMRO - which has members from

ASEAN’s 10 member countries, China, Japan,

the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said

Brunei’s GDP growth is projected to be 1.3

per cent this year and 3.5 per cent next

year. It said this in its Žirst World Economic

Outlook report.

In June this year, the Asian Development

Bank (ADB) forecast the Sultanate GDP growth

at 1.4 per cent this year, but to bounce back to

three per cent next year.

According to AMRO, the opening up of

economies in ASEAN has led to renewed

outbreaks of COVID›19 in several places as

authorities began to retighten restrictions.

of conŽirmed COVID›19 cases in the

Philippines surged to 129,913 after the

Department of Health (DoH) reported 3,109

new daily cases yesterday.

The DoH said the number of recoveries

further rose to 67,673 after it reported 654

more patients have survived the disease.

The death toll also increased to 2,270 after

61 more patients have succumbed to the

viral disease.

Metro Manila topped the Žive regions

or provinces with the highest 1,700 daily

conŽirmed cases reported yesterday.

CANBERRA (XINHUA) - Australia recorded its

deadliest day of the coronavirus pandemic

yesterday with 17 deaths which is the highest

number of people to die from the disease in a

single day in the country.

The deaths, all of which were conŽirmed in

the state of Victoria, takes the national death

toll to 295 and that in Victoria to 210.
