The public yesterday welcomed the

move made by the government where

from August 1 all citizens, residents and

foreigners travelling through land border

control posts or checkpoints in Brunei

Darussalam will need to pay exit and en-

try charges known as

Caj Perkhidmatan

(CaP), which is BND3 per person for a

one-way trip and BND6 per person for a

return trip.

The implementation for Exit and Entry

Charges Order, 2020 was announced

SINGAPORE (AFP) - Singapore’s long-

ruling party retained power yesterday

but its support fell sharply, while the

opposition made gains, in a general

election held under the shadow of a

coronavirus outbreak.

Voters put on masks and gloves

and had to observe social distancing

rules during a poll held as the city-state

emerges from a lengthy lockdown.

The af”luent ”inancial hub has seen

large virus outbreaks in dormitories

housing low-paid foreign workers,

but with new infections slowing and

authorities easing a partial lockdown

the government pushed ahead with

the poll.

Man who posted photos of ex

online gets eight months’ jail

Fadley Faisal

The Magistrate’s Court yesterday handed

an eight month jail sentence to a man

who pleaded guilty to charges of pub-

lic exhibition of obscene photos and

criminal intimidation.

Abdul Majid bin Haji Bini’s, 27, instant guilty

plea was given consideration by Magistrate

Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid.

However, the magistrate said the un-

pleasant breakup does not justify the

defendant’s acts which had damaged

the victim’s reputation to the point of

being “irreparable”.

“The defendant had time to re”lect

and had the opportunity to stop this

ill-intended act when the matter was

brought to the attention of the police,” said

the Magistrate.

“The damage to the reputation was also

extended to the victim's workplace causing

further embarrassment,” the Magistrate said

highlighting that all factors were aggravating.

Facts submitted by Deputy Public

Prosecutor Nurul Fitri binti Kiprawi revealed

that the defendant had previously been in

a relationship with the victim and they had

parted while she was pregnant with their

child in 2019.
