Hiccups involving online renewal

of drivers and vehicle licences

faced by the public early this

month have been recti‚ied. The

Land Transport Department (JPD)

with the help of the Ministry of

Transport and Infocommunica-

tions (MTIC) addressed the issue

by upgrading the TransportBN

mobile application.

A JPD spokesman said the

JPD Headquarters in Gadong saw

an increase in visitors earlier this

month due to pay day, promo-

tions from companies selling cars

for Hari Raya Aidil‚itri and precau-

tions against COVIDŽ19 where the

number of people is restricted as a

measure to contain the disease.

In addition to dealing directly

at the JPD counter, JPD also pro-

vides the Pay and Collect Ser-

vice, Online Services and Trans-

portBN App to renew vehicle and

drivers’ licence.

JPD is aware of the di”icul-

ties the public face, especially

in renewing the Drivers’ Licence

and Vehicle Licence through the

online and TransportBN App, the

spokesman said.

Brunei Darussalam recorded

only one con‚irmed COVIDŽ19

case yesterday bringing the to-

tal number of persons infected

in the country to 135.

Another COVIDŽ19 patient

made complete recovery and

was allowed to return home.

This brings the total number

of recoveries in the country

to 66.

Minister of Health Dato Seri

Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin

Haji Jaafar highlighted these

details at a press conference

yesterday.

The minister, explaining

the only case recorded yes-

terday, Case 135, said he is a

local man aged 43 who went

to Malaysia on February 27

but did not attend the

Tabligh

gathering at Jamek Sri Petal-

ing Mosque, Malaysia.

“The man then went to

Makassar, Indonesia on March

10 to attend a

Tabligh

gather-

ing there. However, the

Ta-

bligh

gathering was cancelled

and he was quarantined until

March 24, 2020 by the Indo-

nesian authorities. On March

25 he left for Jakarta and on

April 2 embarked on a ‚light

to Kuala Lumpur on-board

Malaysia Airlines MH720. He

returned to Brunei Darussalam

on April 3 from Kuala Lumpur

via Miri, Sarawak on-board Ma-

laysia Airlines MH2574 (seated

at 2G). He developed a cough

on March 22,” Dato Seri Setia

Dr Haji Mohd Isham said.

He said one more case

treated at the National Isolation

Centre has recovered and was

allowed to return home, bring-

ing the total number of people

recovered so far to 66.

All incoming travellers to Bru-

nei Darussalam will have to

undergo isolation at designat-

ed centres or hotels allocated

by the government. They will

no longer be allowed to un-

dergo self-isolation in their

own homes.

One reason for this decision

was because of rumours that

some of those under self-iso-

lation at homes had gone out

violating the isolation order.

“This is a major concern

because when those on self-

isolation are out, whatever

hard work done by us is of no

use,” Minister of Health Dato

Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham

bin Haji Jaafar told a press

conference yesterday.

A number of Bruneian stu-

dents and workers are sched-

uled to return to the Sultanate

in the next few days.

The minister also explained

that those who have recovered

from COVIDŽ19 must undergo

seven days of self-isolation

so as to ensure that they are

fully recovered.

“Before a patient is dis-

charged, the patient will un-

dergo tests twice conducted

within 24 hours. The test is car-

ried out as a precautionary pro-

cedure and to reassure that the

patient is free from any virus

threat,” Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji

Awang Mohd Isham said.
